Fiona Ross on Why Men are Struggling and What We Can Do To Help Them

Episode 06

In this episode of Trail Blazers, we sit down with Fiona Ross. A coach and expert in neurolinguistic programming to discuss the challenges that men face in a world that seems to be shifting in ways that they are struggling to keep pace with.

The data is in and the facts are clear. 75% of those that die by suicide are men, 4 out of 5 who struggle with addiction are men, and the list goes on. Our men are struggling with a loss of purpose, ways of communicating their pain and finding themselves in a society that seems to believe they need to simply pull themselves up by their bootstraps and get on with it. After all, they’ve had it so good for so long.

Expect to learn:

  • Why men are actually sacrificial in their ways of being and behaving.
  • Why men are often so unable to or willing to talk about the problems that they are facing.
  • Exercises that Fiona goes through with the men that she currently works with to help them identify their needs.
  • How the work Fiona is doing is helping their wider social circle to engage in these conversations with them proactively

All this and much, much more...This episode really does represent what we hope is a meaningful continued dialogue in the conversations around men's mental health. We have done an amazing job in levelling up other marginalised and struggling groups. Right now we need to help our men do the same, and provide them with tools that they need so that they can communicate their needs, help them show up in all the amazing ways they can and safeguard their mental health longer term.
